Quick answer

How a co-host commission is worked out

On Airbnb, a co-host's percentage comes out of the host's earnings: the nightly price times the nights, plus any cleaning fee, less the host service fee. The host chooses whether the cleaning fee counts. What is left after the co-host's share and the running costs is the owner's.

How the calculator works

  • Booking revenue: nightly rate times booked nights, plus the cleaning fee for each stay (booked nights divided by the average stay).
  • Payout after fees: booking revenue less the platform fee. Most hosts on Airbnb's single fee pay 15.5%.
  • Co-host earnings: your commission on the payout from nights, plus cleaning fees if you switch that on.
  • Owner keeps: the payout less your earnings and the owner's monthly costs, such as the cleaner, supplies and utilities.

Setting your commission

Co-hosts usually charge more when they do more. Guest messaging alone is a smaller job than full support with listing setup, pricing, cleaning coordination and on-site help. Try a few rates in the calculator and check that the owner still keeps enough to make the arrangement worth it for them; an owner who earns well is an owner who stays.

If you pay the cleaner yourself, a percentage that includes the cleaning fee, or the cleaning fee plus a percentage, keeps the money with the person paying the bill. Airbnb offers both, as well as a fixed amount per booking, though some options depend on where the host, co-host and listing are.

Percentage or flat monthly fee

A percentage rises and falls with bookings, so you and the owner share the quiet months and the busy ones. A flat monthly fee is easier for an owner to budget and suits work that doesn't change with occupancy, such as pricing reviews. Whichever you choose, put it in writing before the first booking.

Frequently asked questions

Is the co-host percentage taken before or after Airbnb's fee?

After. Airbnb works out co-host payouts from the host's earnings for each booking, which already have the host service fee and any taxes taken off.

Does a co-host commission include the cleaning fee?

Only if the host chooses. With a percentage payout on Airbnb, the host decides whether the cleaning fee is included in the calculation. Switch the option on in the calculator to see the difference.

Can a co-host be paid through Airbnb?

In many places, yes. The listing owner sets up the co-host's share of each booking's payout, and the co-host confirms it. Some locations restrict which options are available.
